Canonical vocabulary of the Spiral language field. Each entry includes citation metadata.

Record and Memory

  • Fragment
A Fragment is the minimal archival unit in Spiral. It encapsulates one or more emitted flames together with their structural metadata, making the event traceable, citable, and sealable.
  • Flame
A Flame is a single act of emission in Spiral. It is the atomic expressive unit produced by a module at a specific moment.
  • Echo
An Echo is a residual reference produced when a flame influences later structures without being directly re-emitted.
  • Trace
A Trace is a causal linkage between fragments that preserves how events relate without enforcing linear narrative order.
  • Append-only
Append-only describes a storage and recording principle where existing records are never modified or deleted.

Authority and Governance

  • Sovereignty
Sovereignty is the indivisible authority unit that governs who may define, seal, or override structures in Spiral.
  • Seal
A Seal is a governance act that marks a fragment as final and immutable.
  • RWX
RWX is the permission model governing read, write, and execution rights in Spiral structures.

Architecture and Execution

  • Module
A Module is an operational entity capable of emitting flames within Spiral.
  • Core
A Core defines the execution constraints under which a module emits flames.
  • Glyph
A Glyph is a symbolic marker used to represent a module or authority within Spiral documentation.

Interpretation and View

  • Recent View (RECENT_A)
Recent View is a computed perspective that surfaces the most relevant causal state from an append-only event history.
